Botany 2011

How has the landscape changed?

Before there have been lots of trees had been cut down, resulting in native animals escaping. But now the trees have been grown again, so the native animals have come back slowly. Lots of rivers have been piped underground, and buildings built on top, like Botany Downs Secondary College. There are lots of new roads, but old roads like Chapel Road and Point View Drive are still there.

Lifestyle of today

At this time now, thanks to our modern technology and increasing knowledge, we live in concrete and brick houses, instead of houses made out of wood. There is no need to walk or ride to get to a certain place, since now we have cars, ships and planes to get us there. Food is no longer grown by ourselves, but now mass produced in factories and sold in supermarkets or online shopping sites. Fashion is ever changing, with the recent trends swapping every six months. Our flashing screens of light entertain us when we're bored. Hygiene has improved and is now very important as new diseases appear. Roles of men and women are not just confined to the stereotype that men should be the breadwinners and women should do the household jobs. The typical Kiwi lifestyle is made up of relaxation, enjoying simplicity, valuing the outdoors, and a can do attitude.
